Tricot nouveau by Lysanne Latulippe (AKA majolie)

Montreal, January 18th, 2010 - From January 27th to March 12th, 2010, the Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles (MCCT) presents tricot nouveau, an exhibition of recents works by Lysanne Latulippe (AKA majolie) prize-winner of the Prix Lucien-Desmarais, in 2008. The opening of the exhibition will be take place on Wednesday, January 27th 2010, starting at 5 pm.

Lysanne Latulippe, a specialist in the field of knitting, offers us an exhibition in which she reinterprets and transforms the textures and patterns which she has created over the last decade. Within the space of our gallery, she invites us to follow her into a world where fabric is bicoloured, with designs that are both clean and contrasted. She invites us to immerse ourselves in an environment of large knitted panels where we can fully experience their visual and tactile effects.

As a designer, Lysanne Latulippe is guided by the raw materials she uses and their characteristics. In her work, she revives traditional patterns, uses illustrations and is inspired by nature. The refined lines that characterize her fabrics underline her search for balance between technology and creativity. Lysanne Latulippe lives and works in Montréal. A specialist in knitting and its techniques, she created her own label of clothing majolie which she distributed across Canada for nearly ten years. She now acts as a consultant and instructor for various companies. She also collaborates with independent designers. She recently participated in the creation of a video-clip entitled Les peaux des lièvres for the duo Tricot machine.

Since 2005, she has been teaching knitting at the Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles, the school from which she graduated in 2000. To learn more about Lysanne Latulippe, please visit : www.majolie.ca In 2008, Lysanne Latulippe won the Prix Lucien-Desmarais. Founded in 1989, the Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles is a centre dedicated to the creation, research and promotion of contemporary textiles in Quebec. New exhibition at the Museum of Costume and Textile of Quebec

New exhibition at the Museum of Costume and Textile of Quebec

From January 29th to March 21st, 2010, the Museum of Costume and Textile of Quebec (MCTQ) proposes a visit through the universe of embroidery, an art that is, stitch by stitch, creative, meticulously precise and beautiful. A glance at the history of embroidery will allow the visitor to discover various aspects in the evolution of this art unfairly called "minor". While embroidery has adorned kings and emperors, it has also graced everyday life, on aprons, gloves, shoes and handkerchiefs. It is not surprising that the samples embroidered by young ladies of past decades have their own language, that the golden arabesques of Middle East jackets seem to whisper of Arabian Nights, or that great names in contemporary fashion have been inspired by this ancient and precious art.

Threading the Needle presents more than 75 objects from different cultures dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. The MCTQ wishes to express its gratitude to the following institutions and persons for their loans: Musée de la civilisation, Montreal Fine-Arts Museum, Culby-Curtis Museum, Musée des Ursulines de Trois-Rivières, Musée historique des Soeurs de l’Assomption de la Sainte- Vierge, Mrs Michèle Vallée and Mrs Joanne Watkins. The MCTQ is sponsored by the ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine du Québec, Canadian Heritage, CRÉ of Longueuil and the City of St-Lambert. The Museum is a proud partner of Conseil montérégien de la Culture et des Communications and of Montmusée.

The Museum is located in St-Lambert, 349, Riverside Street. Access by highway 132, exit 6 or by public transportation, bus 6, 13 or 15, leaving from the Longueuil subway station. The MCTQ is open to the public from Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 12 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
